New Drake Mixtape!

Apparently Drake is literally young money.

Heeeeeeeeey MidPeople*, everyones favorite Canadian child actor and Lil Wayne protege just released a new mixtape with The Empire. Haven't had too much time to go all the way through the album (I've been busy with Relapse), but from what I have heard Friends With Money: The Drought Is Over is another solid effort from Drizzy. A few of the songs from So Far Gone appear on this release but I can't complain because I can't get enough of "Uptown". He could put that song on every mixtape for the rest of his career and I'd probably be fine with it. Friends With Money: The Drought Is Over has some pretty ballsy moves like sampling Dr. Dre's classic "Still Dre" but the kids got good taste, that much is for sure. Enjoy the jamz. Let me know what you think.

Grab it here thanks to Dat Piff.

*I'm trying to come up with a name for the readers of this blog. MidPeople is lame, Ill be your best friend if you come up with something more clever.

Brand New Black Eyed Peas "Imma Be"

As usual, I only blog in HD.

Call me crazy but I think that the Black Eyed Peas first single of their return to pop prominence "Boom Boom Pow" was a little underproduced and frankly, underwhelming. I certainly enjoyed it but I thought that it took too long for the beat to get where it was going and didn't do as much as it could have once it got there. It's like Will.I.Am, Fergie-Ferg and whoever else is in BEP read my mind. This song "Imma Be" just leaked today and it starts out with a bad-ass, "A Milli" like beat before the second half of the song takes off into a funky, dance groove thing. "Imma Be" puts the repetitive, build-less "Boom Boom Pow" to shame. If you ask me, this is a summer jam. If you don't believe me check it out. If you don't like it right off the bat, wait until the 2:36 mark. The song continues to transform into different movements, each as enjoyable as the last. As my roommate put it "every verse is like a new song". It's a good time. Listen here on Hypem.

At Long Last....Broken Social Scene Are Finally Recording Another Album

I took this picture last summer at Lollapalooza in Chicago

This news broke on Friday, but this ish is new to me. Broken Social Scene is back in the
studio! I enjoyed the last two albums that were part of the Broken Social Scene Presents
series, but seriously I'm ready for the whole crew to get back together again. Unfortunately,
there is no timetable for a release yet, but its nice to know that somewhere in the world
this band is working on some new stuff. For more info, check the P4K. I'm somewhat
nervous that they aren't sticking with their long time producer David Newfeld, but Im
hoping that John McEntire (Tortoise, The Sea and Cake) treats them right.

PS The blogger formating is being weird right now. srry.

The Decemberists on Leno "The Wanting Comes In Waves"

You have the option, so do yourself a favor and watch this shit in 1080p.
I only blog in HD.

So I purchased the new Decemberists album the day it came out last month purely out of loyalty to a band that has been one of my favorites for a while now. I hadn't heard anything from The Hazards of Love, but I had faith in Colin Meloy and his crew but I had faith. I thought I knew what I was getting into, but apparently The Decemberists decided to shift their focus from progressive folk and indie pop to a more guitar-riff driven classic rock style. Of course they still maintain their Decemberistyness, but The Hazards of Love has a little more grit then we've ever seen from them. To see what I mean, check out last week's Leno performance of "The Wanting Comes In Waves/Repaid". This is an abridged version of the six minute epic that appears on the album, but I think you'll get the idea. This song is easily my favorite from the album, mostly because of that lady in white with the crazy pipes! Where has she been hiding?? I haven't heard a howl like that since Sleater-Kinney broke up!!! Wait, I just looked it up. Apparently she is Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond. Fascinating. That chick can sing. Who knew? Anyway, the album is awesome. I can't stop listening to it a month later. This performance is pretty sick, you should check it out. Then go hunt down The Hazards of Love. I promise it's worth your time. I'm gonna go look up some My Brightest Diamond.

New Modest Mouse Music Video "Satellite Skin"

This may be the weirdest music video I've ever seen. There are birdhouses coming to life, alien-bird-creatures with easter eggs for eyes, dancing puppet people, and plenty of other things that I just don't understand. Despite the videos unyielding strangeness, this one of the more simple and laid back songs we've heard from them a while. "Satellite Skin" is a slow burning guitar jam thats easy going, but up-beat. The most promising thing about this song and the new direction of the band is that it seems like they have finally stopped trying too hard. I know that sounds harsh and I really have enjoyed their last couple of releases, but in my opinion they just haven't been able to come close to the level of The Moon & Antarctica. Anywho, "Satellite Skin" is a good time. The video will explode your brain. Enjoy.

Animal Collective's "Summertime Clothes" on Letterman

The Midpoints Summer Blog-O-Thon continues! Check out this great performance from one of the weirdest, most enjoyably bands out there: Animal Collective. During this performance of Merriweather Post Pavilion's "Summertime Clothes" they are able to utilize bright flashing tables of music and glow in the dark back up dancers better then I've ever seen and trust me, that's saying something. Its a fun song, I thought you folks might dig it. Enjoy!

OFFICIAL SUMMER MIXXXXXX

Hey there kids, it's me, Midpoints, back in the blogosphere. I've been super busy with finals and school and what not but now Im back and blogger than ever. To kick of the summer season, I've decided to share my personal recipe for good time summer jamz. Every summer I start listening to top 40 radio again and every summer I am reminded why I love pop music. I then combine my favorite summer jams into one super radio friendly mix. I also like coming up with mildly clever, mostly dumb titles for these mixes. Last year it was Summer Can I? and this year I've settled on Day 'n' Nite 'n' Summer.

So find a pool, fire up the grill and dance cuz its

DAY 'N' NITE 'N' SUMMER:

1. Day 'n' Nite 'n' Summer (Crookers Mix) - Kid Cudi
2. I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho) - Pitbull
3. LoveGame - Lady GaGa
4. Fire Burning - Sean Kingston
5. Right Round - Flo Rida
6. We Made You - Eminem
7. I'm On A Boat ft. T-Pain - The Lonely Island
8. Kiss Me Thru The Phone - Soulja Boy Tell 'em
9. Blame It ft. T-Pain - Jamie Foxx
10. Mad - Ne-Yo
11. I Hate This Part -Pussycat Dolls
12. Crack A Bottle ft. Dr. Dre & 50 Cent - Eminem
13. Boom Boom Pow - Black Eyed Peas
14. If You Seek Amy - Britney Spears
15. Sugar ft. Wynter - Flo Rida
16. Don't Trust Me - 3OH!3
17. Poker Face - Lady GaGa
18. Halo - Beyonce
19. Dead and Gone ft. Justin Timberlake - T.I.

So writing this all out makes me kind of embarrassed...but I can't help myself.
I just love me some summer jamz.
